Cannot Wait...to Paint!

I'll admit it--I love to paint.  Granted, my arms are killing me by the time all is said and done, but the transformation of a room into something completely different (and to my liking) is so satisfying.  Soon, I will be able to paint all of the rooms.  We are waiting until the contractor is finished with the plaster work, and then we should be able to get those rollers and brushes busy!

We are still deciding on room colors, and that can be a difficult choice with a Victorian home.  Do you want to use colors that are accurate to the 1880s?  For those that are renovating an older home that want a contemporary look, almost anything goes.  However, we are antique and historic preservationist types--bordering on Steampunkers, actually--since we do have a love for mixing technology with Victoriana.   Right now we are analyzing the Historic Preservation Valspar colors to see what might work for us.

Construction Work

Completed work:  new Heritage architectural shingle roof, most of the plaster work has been completed, the downstairs bathroom cabinet has been repaired, new furnace installed, new stainless steel Maytag french door fridge delivered, old ceramic countertop tiles have been removed, and most of the problem trees and branches have been removed/trimmed.

Before Restoration Photos

Before Restoration

I will be posting some "before restoration" photos tonight.  Overall, the house has retained its original ceiling mouldings and medallions, along with other architectural details.  We will be removing the carpet that currently covers the entry room and staircase in the near future.

Today we created this blog to document the journey of restoring our 1880's Victorian in the Fox Park neighborhood of St. Louis.  We hope that you enjoy reading our story!
